The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members were updated on the Hoham Drive project during their last meeting Tuesday, October 17.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi shared that there have been many delays with this project. They had thought that NIPSCO was ready for them to begin work. Once Michigan Street was closed and work started, they found that the gas line that NIPSCO had installed was not in the right spot. It was in the spot where the storm sewer line was supposed to go.
Discussions are now being held on how to adjust and make plans that will meet all of the separations and types of lines.
A project meeting was held on Wednesday, October 18. Suggestions were made on how to correct the problem. They can either move the gas line to where it is supposed to be, or they can drop the water line so that there is a separation. Both options come with issues but it will fix the problem in the end.
Officials hope that this solution will be finalized and have the work done during this season. They will also try to work on the water main. However, the entire project will not be concluded until next year.
It was stated that sometime around Thanksgiving, this year, the project will be put on pause and Hoham Drive will be reopened for the winter.
