A Plymouth man was arrested Thursday, October 26 after he reportedly fled the scene of an accident.
The Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a hit and run accident on U.S. 31 in the area of Veterans Parkway shortly after 7 p.m. ET. The driver of the vehicle was struck by another vehicle but the person fled the scene, according to the report.
A good description of the suspect vehicle was given and deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were able to quickly locate the other vehicle involved. The driver, 33-year-old John Popi, reportedly told police that he did not realize the other vehicle was struck, which is why he left the scene.
While speaking with Popi, officers believed him to be impaired, according to the report. Popi was taken to the hospital for a certified blood draw where police say the results revealed he was over the legal limit.
Popi was arrested and taken to the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15 or more, operating a vehicle endangering, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
