Bremen Town Council Members Open Bids for Aquatic Facility Project

Bremen Aquatic Center project

The Bremen Town Council members opened bids Monday afternoon for the proposed Aquatic Facility project.

This project is a Stellar project through the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Initiative. The project includes a straight-line lap pool that will have a zero-depth entry to a now four foot depth.  Where the big pool is currently will be a splash pad with buckets and slides for the kids.  The concrete pad will be redone with shade elements and a green turf area for other activities or sports.

Two companies bid on the project.  The total base bid submitted by Brown and Brown out of Wakarusa was $2,812,000. The first alternate was for $29,000 and second alternate was for $23,300.  The total base bid submitted by R. Yoder Construction out of Nappanee was $3,652,388. The first alternate was for $31,267 and the second alternate was for $19,080.

According to Mike Reese from the Troyer Group, the first alternate price would cover the installation of Life Floor tiles at the zero-depth entry and toddler area of the pool.  The second alternate covers additional site lighting for the pool to be open when dark.

The council members unanimously passed a motion to take the bids under advisement.  Reese will review the bids and provide a recommendation to the council at the next meeting.

If a bid is approved, construction would take place in the fall and spring with the hopes of opening the new facility by the start of the pool season in 2024.
