Bourbon Town Council Approves to Increase Police Salaries

The Bourbon Town Council approved Ordinance 2023-10 Tuesday evening during their regular October meeting.

That ordinance increased the base pay of the Town of Bourbon’s full-time officers by $5,000 over the approved Salary Ordinance 2022-04 dated December 13, 2022. Payrolls #22 (October 27th) through #26 (December 22) will reflect that salary increase which will be paid incrementally to reflect the dates the officer worked.

As stated in Ordinance 2022-04 approved on December 13, 2022 the following positions were paid as follows: Chief $57,165.68 annually – $29.36 hour – 44.04 OT. Sergeant (472) $55,595.28 annually – $28.55 hour – 42.82 OT. Patrolmen (473, 474, 475) $54,423.20 annually – $27.95 hour – 41.92 OT. Parti-Time Officers – $20 an hour.

After adoption of Ordinance 2023-10 beginning with Payroll #22 the following full times positions will be paid as follows: Chief $62,165.68 annually – $31.93 hour – $47.90 OT. Sergeant – $60,595.28 – $31.13 hour – $46l.70 OT. Patrolmen – $59,423.20 – $30.52 hour – $45.78 OT.

Vice President Les McFarland made a motion to approve the Ordinance and suspend the rules for all three readings. Member Terry Clemens seconded the motion. All three members including President Ward Byers voted in favor of the Ordinance; thus it was approved unanimously.

The Council had also approved another wage increase for full time officers of $5,000 a year in the 2024 budget which will take effect in 2024. The Salary Ordinance reflecting those amounts will not be approved until December effective January 1, 2024.

According to Town of Bourbon Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger, the Bourbon Police Department salaries will increase by 17.5% – 18.5% since the Salary Ordinance that was effective January 1, 2023.

The Council scheduled a Work Session for October 25th at 6 p.m. to discuss pay increases for 2024 for the rest of the Town of Bourbon employees (Police Department excluded).
