Argos Community School Board Holds Public Hearing on Tentative Contract for Teachers

The Argos Community School Board opened a public hearing Monday night on the tentative contract for teachers.

Superintendent Ned Speicher said there were no public comments on the two-year agreement.  The president of the Teacher’s Association was in attendance during the hearing.

Speicher explained that the teachers will receive a $1,000 pay increase, a percentage increase, and a $500 stipend before the Christmas holiday.  All of those terms will equal a 6.4 percent increase.  Speicher said the corporation wants to be able to retain the quality teachers it has and was fortunate to be able to offer this to the teachers in the newly proposed contract.

The Teacher’s Association will now review the contract and take action to ratify the agreement.  Following the ratification, the Argos Community School Board will ratify the agreement during their next regular meeting Monday, October 23.
