Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Supports Water Street Town Homes Project Request

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a motion to support several Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) requests for the Water Street Town Homes Project, accept the conceptual use of dry wells which will be required to meet ordinance standards, and support the installation of a Rain Garden to filter some of the alley water.

The City of Plymouth was awarded Regional Economic Acceleration & Development Initiative (READI) Grant funding last year for this project in the amount of $520,000. The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission committed $800,000 to the project which will go to the 20% match. A bond issuance is being explored for the financial commitment.

In a follow-up interview, President of Easterday Construction and Developer Kevin Berger stated that the project started as a collaborative effort between the City Plymouth and Culver Sand Hill Farm LLC to obtain a READI grant for Workforce Housing. Participation has grown and the project wouldn’t have been possible without the further assistance of surrounding property owners.

The project will be located at the corner of Garro St. and Water St. The plan is to construct 12 two-bedroom townhomes, 2 one-bedroom flats, and some commercial space; all rental property. There will be one parcel for the development and a second parcel for the parking lot.

It is anticipated that the City of Plymouth will assume ownership of the parking lot after the project is complete; the new parking lot will accommodate more parking spaces than what is currently designed. The spaces will be smaller than they are currently but will comply with the Department of Transportation with a variance from City of Plymouth standards.

Berger expressed gratitude for the Board of Public Works and Safety’s support.
