Triton School Board Increases Pay for Long Term Substitute Teachers

The Triton School Board members recently voted to increase pay for “long-term” substitute teachers, such as those hired to fill in for a teacher during maternity leave, to $150 a day.

There was a question on the definition of “long term” by the board.  Superintendent Jeremy Riffle cited that the teacher in question was a 12-week hire but generally long term had been any assignment of a substitute for six weeks or more.

The board approved the pay rate with the stipulation that Riffle returns with a definitive definition of long term.

Several projects around the corporation are completed or nearing completion.

The upgrade of the high school auditorium is essentially finished with the light, sound, and audio visual units installed by Sweetwater. The band tower construction is complete as well as the painting of the floors of the cafeteria at the Elementary School.

Furniture and desk replacement in several locations in the schools is a little further behind but on the way to completion.

Additionally, Riffle told the board that enrollment on day one of the school year was at 955 students with a total of 966 on campus. Pre-school students are not included in the official count.  He told the board that he had expected the number to be slightly larger but said that the current kindergarten enrollment was slightly lower than he expected.
