The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members heard requests for street closures during their meeting Monday night.
REES Theatre Director of Artistic and Educational Programming Kathryn Anders asked the board for permission to close Michigan Street from La Porte to Garro Streets from noon to 10 p.m. on September 30 for the Celebration of the Arts event.
Anders explained that the free outdoor event starts at 4 p.m. ET with food trucks, a Heartland Artists Gallery feature, spirits, and music from This Homemade Conspiracy. The event moves indoors at 7 p.m. ET when Passafire performs on the Bob Pickell Performing Arts stage. Paid tickets are required to attend the Passafire performance.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the request.
The board also considered a request from R. Yoder Project Manager Erik Parcell who asked to close Center Street in front of the Plymouth Public Library to do some HVAC work. The southbound lane is currently closed, but they will be installing five rooftop HVAC units the week of September 11 and asked to add the closure of the northbound lane so the entire street is closed to complete the work with a large crane to sit in that space. The board approved the request with a unanimous vote.
Additionally, the board unanimously approved a request from the knitters at the Blueberry Cottage to help decorate the downtown area this Christmas season with the projects children and adults will create.
