The Culver Community School Board took action last week to approve purchases at the corporation.
The board approved a quote from E&B Paving to construct an asphalt surface for six basketball courts and pickleball courts in the grassy area between the loading dock and behind the Middle School gym. There will be a slight adjustment in the scope of the project to eliminate the idea of leaving a perimeter of grass for water run-off and drainage. The board thought that the extension of the asphalt to include the entire area would alleviate the need for extra maintenance and would provide better drainage than the original scope.
The quote of $43,000 was approved with a unanimous vote.
The board anticipates the purchase of new basketball hoops and striping of the courts in the project budgeted in the Capital Projects Plan and funded in the budget.
The board also approved the purchase of cafeteria equipment from C&T Design in the amount of $124,000. New service lines will be purchased as well as other equipment. Superintendent Karen Shuman and Treasurer/Business Manager Casey Howard explained to the board that Cafeteria Manager Gretchen Johnson has a surplus of funds in her budget. The Food Services department has its own funding and is not supported by taxpayer dollars. The Indiana State Board of Accounts allows only three months of revenue as a balance in the budget.
In other action, the board has decided to table the replacement of vertical glass at the Middle School Gym. The total replacement cost is $240,000 and there is not a structural need to immediately address that aspect at this time. At this time, it is merely cosmetic and there are no environmental concerns.
