Bourbon Town Council Updated on Police Report, Hiring Challenges

During the regular meeting held in August, Bourbon Police Department (BPD) Chief Bill Martin updated the Bourbon Town Council with his monthly report for July 2023, the hiring process, and requested a clothing allowance increase.

Officer Taylor Sahlhoff submitted his resignation to work with another Police Department.  The council accepted his two-week notice. With that, the department is now seeking two full-time officers. The council approved the continued search for replacements to join the team.

Chief Martin requested an increase in the clothing allowance in the 2024 budget from $750 to $1,000 per officer. Boots alone have increased in cost to $600. The council approved that request.

Chief Martin reported 786 Daily Log Entries during the month of July 2023.

The Bourbon Police Department Activity Report for July 2023 included six accidents reported, four uniform traffic tickets, three ordinance tickets, 0 school patrols, eight written warnings, 65 verbal warnings, three vehicle identification checks, 62 traffic details including radar checks, two motorist assists, 13 attempts to locate and six foot patrols.

The Criminal Activity Report for July 2023 included three felony arrests, ten misdemeanor arrests, eight case reports assigned, and two alarms.

The Administrative and General Report included 92 office details, one firearms applications, zero record check / processing, 22 general complaints, 12 requests for service, 151 security checks, 71 public contacts, 37 assists to other agencies, six animal complaints, five notices served, four doors or windows found open, two family disturbance complaints, 15 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 17 calls to 9-1-1.
