St. Joseph Health System Tobacco Education Coordinator Annette Haining is inviting residents to the Marshall County Hope for Youth event at the REES Theatre Tuesday, June 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET.
The event is coordinated by Project HOPE, in partnership with RemedyLIVE and Breathe Easy Marshall County.
Haining explained to the Marshall County Commissioners and Marshall County Council members in their respective meetings that surveys were given to Junior High and High School students in the schools in the county and the statistics from those surveys will be available for public dissemination during this event.
“We collected a lot of data,” Haining stated. “We collected data on if they’re depressed, if they’re anxious, and what they escape to. Do they escape to vaping? Do they escape to drugs? How can we help these kids that are coming up and that are going to be one day sitting in these chairs?”
She said over 4,000 students participated in this survey.
While the survey was only given to students in Junior High and High School, Haining noted that she hopes that they can reach Elementary School students as there are concerns of vaping in younger kids.
Special speakers during the event include Senator Mike Bohacek and Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter. Special guests include Representative Jack Jordan and Representative Jake Teshka.
There is limited seating so those who would like to attend should register. Registration information can be found here.
