The Bremen Town Council members made a slight adjustment to the Aquatic Center project plans when they met last week.
Park Superintendent Brian Main said while working on the Aquatic Center design, the engineers and designers for the project found that it was difficult to get the pool down to the five foot depth. He commented they are recommending a four foot depth instead of five feet. Main said the slope and length of the pool are the issues with the given distance.
The council members asked if that would impede swim lessons at the pool and Main indicated that the depth would not affect it.
The council unanimously approved a motion to change the deep portion of the pool to four feet.
The town is applying for an already-earmarked federal grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs in the amount of $1.485 million with the town’s contribution of a little over $1.6 million which consists of TIF Funds, Park Department funds and American Rescue Plan Act funds.
This project is a Stellar project through the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Initiative. The project includes a straight-line lap pool that will have a zero-depth entry to a now four foot depth. Where the big pool is currently will be a splash pad with buckets and slides for the kids. The concrete pad will be redone with shade elements and a green turf area for other activities or sports.
Bids should be taken early this fall with the project starting after the 2023 pool season is complete. Construction will take place in the fall and spring with the hopes of opening the new facility by the start of the pool season in 2024.
