Officials from Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA), the Town of Bremen and fifth grade students from the Bremen Elementary/Middle School helped cut the ribbon Thursday afternoon to welcome a new solar park in Bremen.
The 6.7 megawatt facility is located at 5279 1st Road in Bremen and features 20,852 solar panels. The solar park produces an annual amount of energy to power about 1,238 homes. It underwent construction in October 2021 with it coming online and being commissioned in November 2022.
IMPA officials say the park utilizes a single axis tracking system which allows the solar panels to move throughout the day, following the path of the sun.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy stated during the event that the project has been in the works for about 10 years and it has finally come to fruition. Several Bremen businesses have asked for a clean energy source and it is now available.
When discussing the components of the solar operation, it was noted that the wires used were manufactured by Southwire, a Bremen manufacturing facility.
IMPA has constructed 44 solar parks throughout the state, adding over 173 megawatts of solar generation. Other nearby IMPA communities where solar parks are located include Argos, Columbia City and Walkerton.
