A Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy arrested 61-year-old Ricky Billings Friday, May 26 for an active warrant and drug possession.
The deputy was traveling south on Michigan Road near Jefferson Street in his police vehicle when he spotted Billings walking on the sidewalk. The deputy knew Billings had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and stopped him in the Bruno’s Pizza parking lot, according to the report.
As the deputy was placing Billings into handcuffs, Billings allegedly started to reach into his front pants pocket. The deputy stopped him and asked him if he had anything illegal or weapons in his possession. Billings reportedly stated that he had methamphetamine in his pocket, along with paraphernalia and some knives.
The deputy retrieved three knives, a glass container with a small amount of a crystal substance inside, and a used glass methamphetamine pipe from Billings’ pants pocket, according to the report. The drug items later reportedly field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Billings was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on two outstanding civil warrants, and possession of methamphetamine.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
