Marshall County Election Board Certifies Primary Municipal Election

The Marshall County Election Board acted to certify the Primary Municipal Election in a meeting Friday, May 12.

The board members reviewed three provisional ballots.  They rejected one ballot as the voter had just moved into Center 8 from Center 5 prior to the election and did not update her address.  There was no ballot in Center 8, but wanted to vote a provisional ballot in Center 5.  The board determined that the voter was ineligible to vote.  .  One other provisional ballot was not approved or rejected as the voter did not complete the paperwork to complete the ballot.

One provisional ballot was approved as there was a poll worker mistake.  A husband and wife were both eligible to vote, but the wife inadvertently voted under her husband’s name. The error was caught, but when the husband arrived to vote, he could not vote under his name.  The Indiana State Election Division was contacted and the poll worker was advised to issue a provisional ballot for the voter.  The ballot was approved by the election board Thursday afternoon.

The provisional ballot did not change the outcome of any races.

With that additional provisional ballot, the total number of voters on Election Day totaled 896, with 76 paper absentee ballots cast, and 218 walk-in early voters.  The total number of voters for the May Primary Municipal Election is 1,190.

The election was certified by a unanimous vote.
