LaPaz Town Council Holds Public Hearing on Park Improvement Project

The LaPaz Town Council recently held a public hearing to get community feedback on the park improvement project that is currently underway.

The project will include new mulch and equipment in the existing playground in addition to the new “natural park”. A pickleball court will be installed, as well as new sidewalks throughout and asphalt repair. This project is expected to cost about $285,000 with the Town of LaPaz putting forth $10,000, Marshall County adding $75,000 and $200,000 from the grant.

The grant application will be turned in May 31 with a 4-6 week approval period. There will be one more public hearing May 22 at 6 p.m. ET. With bidding going out in August or September, they have hope to break ground this fall. The demolition of both baseball diamonds has already begun.

The only concern that was voiced by a member of the community was that of the baseball diamonds being removed as it was not included in the survey and a lot of pop-up games take place at these fields. Council members recommended the LaVille ball fields for pop-up games.
