John Glenn School Superintendent Discusses Staffing

After the announcements of three new resignations/retirements, John Glenn School Corporation Superintendent Christopher Winchell recently told the school board that he felt it would be good to actually present the numbers of anticipated staff openings that they should be expecting.

At the moment, there have been nine licensed individuals who have retired or resigned. They hope to be adding three more licensed slots on top of that as they begin the process of class size reduction, particularly in grades 2, 3 and 6. That puts them at 12 licensed positions that will need to be filled.

They have two major ECA openings for middle school athletics and grade 7-12 choir, which is more of an educational and extra curricular position.

There are six anticipated educational support staff members who may not return next school year and five operational staff members that they know for sure will not be returning.

“We talk about staffing and I just want to quantify that here we are the first week of May and we know we have 21 people who are on the books now that we are going to have to take off. And then very close to 21 people, if not all, who will have to be put back on the books,” stated Winchell.
