Culver Juvenile Allegedly Tampers with Electronic Device, Hits Officer

A Culver male juvenile was apprehended by a Culver Police Department officer and the director of Marshall County Community Corrections after he allegedly tampered with his electronic monitoring device Sunday, May 28.

Officer Nick Fobert was called to a residence in the 400 W. block of Mill Street at 10:15 p.m. ET.  While the officer was conducting an investigation at the scene, Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers arrived to assist.  During the on-scene investigation, police say the male juvenile struck Officer Fobert in the face and then fled the residence on foot.

The juvenile attempted to get into an unattended vehicle at another nearby property, but continued to run with both officers in pursuit on foot.  The juvenile was apprehended within a few blocks by the officers.

Custody of the juvenile was transferred to an officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for transport from the scene.

Officer Fobert was treated for facial injuries at the hospital and later released.

The Culver Police Department was assisted by Marshall County Community Corrections, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, and Culver-Union Township EMS.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
