The Bremen Town Council opened up a second public hearing concerning the proposed pool project Monday afternoon.
The town is applying for an already-earmarked federal grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs in the amount of $1.485 million with the town’s contribution of a little over $1.6 million which consists of TIF Funds, Park Department funds and American Rescue Plan Act funds.
This project is a Stellar project through the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Initiative.
Park Superintendent Brian Main said the pool was built in 1964 and has undergone at least one rehabilitation, but the real damage came in 2018. Floods ravaged the concrete super structure of the pool and the liner is near the end of its life span, so repairs need to be done.
Priority Project Resources Grant Writer Shannon McLeod explained that a community survey was distributed and based upon the feedback the pool area will incorporate several features.
McLeod stated, “Where the existing toddler pool is I think that’s going to be more of a straight line lap pool that will have a zero-depth entry and go down to a five-foot depth. Where the big pool is we’re going to do a really cool splash pad thing there with buckets and slides and things for the kids. We’re also going to redo the concrete pad out there, put some shade elements up and install a green turf area so it’s more multi-facet.”
The grant application will be going in at the end of this month and the award should be known in late June or early July. Bids should be taken early this fall with the project starting after the 2023 pool season is complete. Construction will take place in the fall and spring with the hopes of opening the new facility by the start of the pool season in 2024.
There were no public comments during the public hearing.
