Bremen Town Council Receives Updates from Department Heads

The Bremen Town Council members allowed the Water Department Superintendent to move forward with a water meter purchase in the amount of $76,000.

Henry Aguayo said it is a budgeted item where an updated meter reading system will be installed.  He explained that the new information collection system will also allow the town to realize any water leaks in real time as it will send an alert of unusually high usage.

He said the entire installation process of meters could take several months to complete as the equipment is hard to acquire.  The installation of the new program could be done now as it can read the old meters that are in use.

The council members agreed to allow the purchase.

In other reports, Police Chief Brad Kile said two officers are anticipated to be leaving the department to neighboring departments and taking 42 years of experience with them.  The positions will be posted when needed.

One officer will be entering the Law Enforcement Academy and a dispatcher was hired at the Bremen Police Department.

Additionally, the council allowed Street Superintendent Austin Langdon to purchase a new loader.  The current loader is 12 years old and is in need of replacement. With a $62,000 trade-in and other discounts, Langdon said a 2023 John Deere loader will be purchased at $133,100 from West Side Tractors in South Bend.

Cemetery Superintendent Keith Fraine noted that new water lines were being installed this week in the cemetery.
