A Friday afternoon accident in La Porte County claimed the life of a Plymouth man.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, emergency responders were called to the scene just before 3:30 p.m. CT Friday, April 28 at the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Road 39 for a two-vehicle accident. An investigation found that a blue 2008 Honda, driven by 39-year-old Brent L. Freyenberger of Plymouth, was traveling west on U.S. 30 when he reportedly disregarded a red traffic light at the intersection. Police say Freyenberger was struck by a commercial motor vehicle traveling south on State Road 39, driven by 27-year-old Kody J. Hansen of North Judson.
Hansen told deputies that he was proceeding through the intersection when his vehicle was struck by the passenger vehicle, according to the report.
Freyenberger was pronounced dead at the scene. Hansen sustained an upper body injury.
The westbound lanes of U.S. 30 at State Road 39 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours as deputies investigated the crash and while the wreckage was removed from the intersection.
Toxicology tests are pending. The crash investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division, Westville Police Department, Hanna Township Volunteer Fire Department, La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Coroner’s Office, and John’s Garage.
