Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approves Request for Dustin’s Place Join the Journey 5K

MARSHALL COUNTY — The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request made by Director Viki Brown for the fourth annual Dustin’s Place Join the Journey 5K and Family Fun Run.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 15th this year with a start time of 9 a.m. ET. In previous years, the race began at 8 a.m.; runners requested the later launch.

The event will be held at the Stockman Youth Center located at 11802 Lincoln Highway East where groups meet every other Monday evening.

Two officers who serve as reserves on the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will provide the escort on Lincoln Highway and two off-duty officers who will provide assistance with traffic control in and out of the parking lot.

Attendance remains strong at 123 racers. Brown hopes to increase that number this year. Individuals may register for $30 per participant at www.dustinsplace.org/5kandFunRun

Proceeds go to the mission and vision of Dustin’s Place which is to provide peer grief support groups for children, teens, and adults.

Dustin’s Place ensures that “no one grieves alone” by providing no-cost connection and support through the grief journey after the death of a loved one.

In addition to the support center, Dustin’s Place provides community grief supports groups for children throughout Marshall County at local schools and at a college campus. Dustin’s Place also spreads awareness of children’s grief through education, professional development and other community events.

There are four groups for children; ages 4 to 6 years old, ages 7 to 9 years old, 10 to 13 years old, and 14 to 18 years old. Research illustrates that children grieve best with their peers.

Adult groups are divided by grief type: Spousal Bereavement, Parent of a Child Loss, Family Support, Suicide Bereavement, and Substance Use Bereavement.

Community Group outreaches include Acute Grief Support and School Grief Groups.

It costs approximately $592 per child every year to provide free grief support.

Every dollar helps. For those who do not want to run but would like to donate please visit dustinsplace.org. More information about the organization can be obtained by emailing Brown at info@dustinsplace.org or by calling 574-259-0528. Brown offers training for individuals interested in volunteering.
