The Bremen Town Council opened a public hearing last week on a proposed amendment of the electric ordinance.
Electric Department Superintendent Ben Wright explained that it mainly pertains to industrial users with on peak and off peak usage.
“It deals with the demand – how much energy we use at once on our grid and we get charged accordingly,” said Wright. “It’s called off peak. We give customers a break on their electric rates if they decide to run production on the off peak when basically all of the other production is shut down. Those rates are kind of established by IMPA. They upped their rates of what they’re going to charge so we had to pass that along.”
He said this only applies to one industrial user in the Town of Bremen.
Wright noted that there are no changes to residential rates.
There were no public comments.
The council members then voted unanimously to approve the second and third readings of the ordinance, thus authorizing its adoption.
