The Culver Community School Board members were given recommendations from SiteLogIQ on bids to approve for upcoming construction projects at the school corporation this summer.
For the Culver Elementary School projects, it was recommended that R. Yoder Construction win the bid. The general construction bid with an alternate bid for repaving between the drop-off area and Media Center is a total of $1.127 million. It was also recommended that R. Yoder Construction win the bid for the Middle/High School projects for a total cost of about $3.6 million for general construction and two alternate bids for lockers and glass block replacement in the gym.
The testing and balance bid was recommended from Bledsoe Environmental at $11,750 and Trane for a controls bid at a cost of $76,304.
The school board unanimously approved the bids as presented with the school board members present.
Superintendent Karen Shuman said three components will be re-bid including plumbing, electrical and mechanical. She noted that there was one plumbing bid received, but it was 100 percent over the estimated cost. There were no electrical or mechanical bids submitted in this first round of bids. The bidding process will be re-advertised, as unanimously approved by the board members present.
The bond projects at the Culver Elementary School include a library renovation, handicap lift for the stage, repaving parking lots, redoing water lines, new boilers, tuckpointing in the masonry, and replacing the gym floor.
Tuckpointing will done at the Middle/High School, along with a FACS (Family and Consumer Science) room renovation, locker room renovation, restroom renovation, band and choir room renovations, gym floor replacement, and the installation of a ramp in the high school auditorium instead of a handicap lift. Electrical panels will be updated, and pick-up and drop-off in the back of the school building.
