Bourbon Town Council Approves Plan Commission/Zoning Contract

The Bourbon Town Council recently approved 2-1 the Plan Commission / Zoning Contract with Chuck DeWitt for a period of six months. Vice President Les McFarland and Councilman Terry Clemens approved; President Ward Byers voted against. McFarland said that he thought the communication has improved, but he wanted to evaluate again in six months. Clemens echoed the improvement in communication and agreed with the six month reevaluation.

Additionally, the Town of Bourbon awarded the paving bid to Niblock Excavating as the low bidder in the amount of $193,765.75.

Byers also notified the Council that legislation is moving through the Indiana Legislation that will require municipalities to establish a Resolution or Ordinance determining how many Reserve Officers will be allowed on a Department.

He added that other proposed Legislation, if passed, will impact future redevelopment. Twenty percent of any funding collected through newly created Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts established after July 2023 will be forwarded to the local school corporation within that municipality, in this case, Triton School Corporation. That funding will then need used for skills and vocational training for students. According to Byers, there was also some language impacting already formed TIF Districts as well. If legislation passes, the non-voting board member appointed by the school board will become a voting member.
