Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the commissioners Monday morning that the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) application for 2028 was submitted.
The application includes 80/20 funding for Bridge 88 (12th Road), Bridge 108 (7th Road) and a truck route on Linden Road from State Road 10 to State Road 110.
Beyond that, Peters said the Highway Department completed a robust Road Program this year.
“I’d say we’re probably around 50 miles of chip seal, close to 25 or 30 miles of triple seal, and paving-wise we were probably 10 to 12 miles that we ended up getting done and completed. Overall, we got another really good year in,” said Peters
Peters said overall the outlook on the county’s roads is a lot better than in the past. He said the average PASER rating for the county is about 5.2 which is higher than a few years ago when the county had 85 percent failed roads with a PASER rating of 1 or 2.
“It takes time,” Peters continued, “I think the positive side of it is the majority of the main thoroughfares throughout the county are in good shape right now, which is the place we want to be because we want to be able to keep those on the preservation side opposed to reconstruction. Reconstruction is what costs you a lot of money.”
Peters said he will present a draft of the proposed 2023 Road Program at the commissioner’s next meeting.
