On Wednesday night, the Marshall County Republicans held a caucus to decide who will fill the vacancy of the County Treasurer’s office. The current treasurer, Angie Birchmeier, resigned effective Dec. 31 as she was elected to serve as county auditor and cannot hold two elected positions at the same time.

There were two candidates that spoke during the caucus, Kayla Krathwohl and Kelly Einspahr. Each candidate was given three minutes to speak about why they would be the best candidate for the position.

Einspahr spoke first. She is a Plymouth resident that has been employed with the county for the last 18 years. Prior to that, she was a hotel manager at Swan Lake Resort. Prior to that, she was a self-employed licensed cosmetologist. She is currently employed in the County Assessor’s office as a Level 2 Assessor Appraiser. She has been in the Assessor’s office for the last seven years.

Krathwohl spoke next. She is a lifelong Marshall County resident, born and raised in Argos. After graduating from IUSB, she worked as sales representative and office manager for a third-party financial company that was tied into the automotive industry. After that position, she worked in the Fulton County Auditor’s Office as the Property Records Deputy. After a year there, she was hired into the Marshall County Auditor’s Office where she processes settlements.

After each candidate was finished speaking, Republican precinct committee members voted by secret ballot. Out of 25 votes, the majority was in favor of Einspahr to become the next Marshall County Treasurer. She will serve the remaining two years of the current term.

“I wanted to thank everybody and I wanted to tell them my experience and knowledge from the past, being in the auditor and the assessor, I think will help me through to the treasurer. I worked with the treasurer, as Kayla said, you don’t know exactly what that position is. I’m confident I can do it. I have a lot of people tell me that I’m capable. You might think that yourself, but if other people believe in you, it actually helps,” said Einspahr.
