The Culver Community School Board members were presented with a resolution Monday that for the dissolution of the Joint Service and Supply Fund Agreement for Special Education for the JESSE Cooperative.
According to the resolution, nine school corporations entered into the agreement to provide special education and related services to students. The JESSE Board of Managers, comprised of the superintendents of each participating school corporation, has recommended to each school board that the JESSE Cooperative be dissolved and terminated effective June 30, 2023.
The Culver Community School Corporation is a participating school corporation, as well as Argos Community Schools, John Glenn School Corporation, Knox Community School Corporation, North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation, Oregon-Davis School Corporation, Plymouth Community School Corporation, Triton School Corporation, and the Union-North United School Corporation.
Culver Community School Board member J.D. Uebler asked how the money will be divided back to the school corporations. Superintendent Karen Shuman explained that the attorney representing the dissolution will calculate that and put that in an agreement to be considered and approved by the school boards.
The Culver Community School Board agreed to the JESSE Board of Managers’ recommendation to dissolve and unanimously approved the resolution Monday night. The resolution must be approved by all participating schools for dissolution to be effective.
During Tuesday’s John Glenn School Board meeting, Superintendent Christopher Winchell noted that the recommendation by the JESSE Board of Managers was not unanimous and it needs to be a unanimous recommendation before dissolution can officially take place so the board members will be meeting again soon to further discuss the matter. Winchell noted that the vote was 8-1 and he was the lone dissenting vote.
