Accident Claims Life of Teenager in Plymouth

The Plymouth Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Coroner are investigating a Monday night accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich says Marshall County 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call at about 8:40 p.m. ET of a car vs. pedestrian accident at Oak Road and Pidco Drive in Plymouth.

Plymouth Police Department officers say a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Gregory Brown of Plymouth was driving west on Pidco Drive when a pedestrian walked into the intersection against a red light in front of the vehicle.  Witnesses confirmed that Brown had the right-of-way, according to the report. Brown reportedly told police that he did not see the pedestrian until he had been struck.

First responders arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian, later identified as 16-year-old Maleek S. Steele, seriously injured.  Life saving efforts were attempted, but Steele was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m. ET.

The Marshall County Coroner’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Plymouth Police Department, Plymouth Fire Department and EMS, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident remains under investigation.  Once the investigation is complete, any findings will be forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor for review.
