Holiday shopping will be easier this season as several downtown Plymouth merchants will be extending shopping hours every Thursday in December before Christmas.
In addition to extra time to get special gifts from downtown shops, residents are welcome to stop by an area on Garro Street between Michigan Street and the Post Office alley to enjoy a different event each Thursday in December, as well as a s’more making station. The s’more kits will be available in open stores during the extended hours.
Twelve shops will be open until 8 p.m. ET for downtown candlelight Christmas shopping while the special events on Garro Street will be ongoing from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET.
Sandy Saenz explained to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members this week that on December 1, downtown visitors will have an opportunity to see Santa and Mrs. Claus, while the Expressions Dance Studio students will present a dance routine on December 8 and the Grinch will stroll the downtown area that night. The December 15 features will include carolers from Lincoln Junior High School and Riverside Intermediate Schools, more dance routines done by Expressions Dance Studio, Santa, craft stations and gift wrapping stations on Garro Street. Saenz said a cookie walk will be featured on December 22.
“On the 22nd, again, s’mores – because we like ‘em! We’ll also be doing a cookie walk that night that will be a ticketed event. They’ll buy a ticket, they’ll get a box, they’ll get to visit the merchants that are open, and get a cookie. They should have over a dozen cookies by the time they’re done. The REES Theatre will be showing ‘Polar Express’ on the 22nd and Santa will be strolling around downtown,” said Saenz.
A hot chocolate station is also a possibility during the candlelight Christmas shopping events.
The board members unanimously gave permission to close Garro Street between Michigan Street and the Post Office alley for the planned events.
