DEA Drug Take Back Day Gathers over 640,000 Pounds of Medications

The Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day collected more than 647,000 pounds of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications at more than 5,000 collection sites in the U.S.

The Take Back initiative seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft through proper disposal of prescription drugs.

In Indiana, 66 law enforcement agencies participated in the event with 73 collection sites and 23,771 pounds of medications collected at those sites during the one-day event.

Since its inception in 2010, DEA’s National Prescription Take Back Day has removed almost 17 million pounds of unneeded medications from communities across the country.
