A Claypool man was sentenced in Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 on Thursday, November 10 after a two-day trial in September resulted in guilty verdicts of Child Molesting. He was also found to be a Habitual Offender.
According to information submitted by the Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, 37-year-old Joshua Volkert was found guilty of molesting a young victim over a six-year period of time. The offenses were committed in Plymouth and the case was investigated by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, according to the report.
Volkert was sentenced by Judge Robert O. Bowen to a total of 76 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. He was sentenced to 35 years each on Counts 1 and 3 to be served consecutively, and another six years on Counts 2 and 4 to run at the same time as Counts 1 and 3. An additional six years was included on a Habitual Offender count which will be served consecutively to Counts 1 and 3. He is also required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his lifetime.
Marshall County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tami Napier prosecuted the case, along with Deputy Prosecutor Nick Langowski. Volkert was represented by Public Defender Chris Berdahl.
