The Bremen Town Council members approved a contract with Jones Petrie and Rafinski for the upcoming Wastewater Plant project.
The new plant would include a new maintenance building, control, chemical feed and blower building, and a sludge storage structure. The project also includes a new effluent outlet to the Yellow River, and the reconstruction of the town’s interceptor sewer through the wetland area and the manufactured home park.
The $16.3 million project will be funded from the State Revolving Fund Loan Program or USDA Funding, or a combination of both.
Engineers from Jones Petrie and Rafinski will be designing the project at a cost of about $1.8 million. Jones noted that the firm has worked with Wastewater Superintendent Matt Cunningham to put together a equipment pre-selection proposal package.
“We’ve been doing this regularly over the last couple of years and it seems to be a good tool to save some costs on the project,” stated Jones. “It also allows us to design around a specific package of products that we’ve pre-selected. This will be a competitive selection kind of following the standards that would be acceptable to the State Board of Accounts and to both of our funding agencies in this case – USDA and the State Revolving Loan Fund.
The council approved the preparation of the pre-selection proposal package which would include the extended aeration equipment, lift station pumps and controls, new headworks equipment, UV disinfection, chemical feed equipment, and sludge transfer pumps. Prices would be collected from providers with fixed numbers so when it goes to bid the bidders would bid on the installation. Jones added that this process also reduces the number of change orders with the project.
