A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon at the site of a new house build at the newly-developed Deerfield Meadows Subdivision in Argos.

Argos Community Schools, along with North Central CTE Cooperative, Marshall County Lifelong Learning Network (“LLN”), Argos Community Development Corporation (“ACDC”), Plymouth Community School Corporation, Triton School Corporation, and a handful of local organizations have joined together with a purpose of education, experience, and growth.

“We are thrilled Marshall County students have the opportunity to experience hands-on education and training” states Ned Speicher, Superintendent of Argos Community Schools. “There continues to be a need for skilled labor and high school CTE programs are the perfect bridge to connect eager students with the industry.”

North Central CTE Cooperative partners with IKORCC (Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters) to provide an attainable pathway for students in the program to a high wage, high demand job once they graduate high school, and complete construction trades programs.

“I am very proud of the North Central CTE Cooperative’s building trades programs” states CTE Director, Jennifer Felke. “It is exciting our program and students are taking part in something bigger than just building a house. For this project, we have partnered with ACDC to contribute towards growth of the Argos community by building the first home in a new subdivision.”

Deerfield Meadows is a new subdivision in Argos spearheaded by ACDC to fill the local housing need.

ACDC Vice President Mark VanDerWeele comments, “The partnership with the schools, cooperatives, and local businesses is something incredible to be a part of. Our long-term goal is these students not only learn a trade by building a home, but they feel part of something bigger and they see the benefits of a small-town coming together, which will result in them building their future here.”

The new house is projected to be completed by the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
