The new Building Trades instructor was introduced to the John Glenn School Board members Tuesday night.
Brian Laskawski is the new instructor. He also happens to be an assistant softball coach at the corporation.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said Laskawski was one of 10 candidates who reached out when the position became available.
“In a day and age when there’s 2,300 open teaching slots and in a day and age when carpenters can set their own price, we were very fortunate to have 10 people reach out,” said Winchell. “One of the main qualifying questions as Mr. Manering and I fielded those phone calls was ‘have you ever built a house?’ Of those 10 people we talked to, three of them had built houses and we spent multiple hours interviewing all three of those candidates. I’m really proud to say we had three fine, outstanding candidates.”
John Glenn High School Principal Chris Manering commented that Laskawski is highly qualified for the position and “happy he is on the team.”
Laskawski will be overseeing the work done at the next house build at Ule Trail and 1st Road. He will begin full-time September 19.
