The John Glenn School Board members opened a public hearing last week concerning proposed action to move forward with certain renovations and improvements.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained that in order to move forward with the renovations and improvements a $995,000 bond would be needed with no impact to the tax rate as some existing debt will be paid off next year.
Winchell said the bond money will go toward roofing, support student programming improvements in the Special Education area, improvements to Alt Ed resources, and updating the Life Fitness class which includes upgrades to the high school weight room and athletic facilities as well as expanding the course work to the 7th grade. The bond money will also be used to aid in the increase cost of buses, and updating outdoor playground equipment. Depending on how pricing goes, remaining funds could be used to complete an HVAC update at the North Liberty Elementary School.
Winchell said the plan is to take out a larger bond in the spring of 2023, somewhere in the $6 million range as more facility work needs to be done.
There were no public comments during the meeting.
With that, several resolution documents were approved to move forward with the bond process.
