Motorists and pedestrians will see a change in the downtown Plymouth area in the next few months as the Complete Streets Committee conducts another tactical urbanism project.
Committee representative Allie Shook previously presented the information about the safety project to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members which will include curb extensions at the intersection of Michigan Street and Garro Street, to make crossing the street easier for all walkers and bikers.
A similar temporary project was completed near Serenity Place on Jefferson Street and another on East Jefferson Street near the Coffee Lodge building.
The project was to be done in August, but there was a delay with the permit process.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt updated the board members this week that the permit for the project was approved by INDOT as Michigan Street is a state highway. MACOG will provide what materials they can to do the project.
Board member Duane Culp asked about the turn radius of trucks, but it should be maneuverable. It will be looked at and noted in the review if there are issues at the intersection.
Marquardt did not have a specific timeline of when the project will begin.
