The Argos School Board members opened a public hearing this week to gather comments on upcoming construction projects.
Superintendent Ned Speicher said that a bond will be sought to finance the projects, but there will be no impact to the tax rate. The estimated cost of the projects is $4.1 million. He said quite a few projects are included in this bond.
“We’ll have an addition to the Elementary School for a new music room, a new art room and a new testing room,” explained Speicher. “The other project is going to be a site development on the exterior of the building working on drainage, parking lots and fencing. We’re also going to be replacing mechanical units for heating and air conditioning that are on our roofs.”
The architects are preparing the documents and the projects should go out to bid in the next few months. Bonds are anticipated to be sold after January 1.
Speicher commented that construction will start on some aspects as soon as equipment is available.
“A lot of this stuff has a lot of lead time for manufacturing like the mechanical units. We know that they’re like 40 or 50 weeks out if we ordered them today. We’re starting the process so manufacturing can begin. The sooner that we get them ordered the sooner we can get them here and replace our aging equipment.”
There were no comments from the public during the public hearing.
Following the hearing, the board approved several documents pertaining to the proposed construction projects.
