Plymouth City Council Reviews Tax Abatement Resolutions

Two resolutions were brought before the Plymouth City Council members last week that pertain to tax abatement requests.

Greg Hildebrand from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation explained that officials from Composite Technology Assemblies, LLC, or Oasis, are looking for $2 million a personal property tax abatement and a $2 million real estate abatement in a seven year tax phase-in for both.  There will be 76 additional jobs on top of the 200 already employed within the company.

The company will be at a new location producing its shower tub enclosure to meet the demand for building materials.  Two robots are being installed and an additional robot to join the fleet to keep up with demand.

Councilman Greg Compton stated that he does not agree with a personal property tax abatement and wanted the two requests in separate motions, but Councilman Jeff Houin formed the motion with both requests included.

The motion passed with a vote of 6-1 with Compton opposed.

The second request was from Plymouth Molding Group for seven year tax phase-ins for real property and personal property.  Hildebrand said the current facility at Jim Neu Drive is running out of space so PIDCO has agreed to build the company a new facility north of U.S. 30 by Pretzels, Inc. The process will involve relocating all machines and six additional lines. All of the company’s workforce will be transitioning to the new building with eight new jobs with this tax abatement request.

The request was approved with a vote of 6-1 with Compton opposed.
