The John Glenn School Board members received a report on the start of the new school year when they met Tuesday night.

All building principals said parents and students were excited about the updates to all of the school buildings over the summer, including new carpeting and painting.  North Liberty Elementary School Principal Randy Romer and Walkerton Elementary School Principal Patrick Fuller said all back-to-school events were well attended and students were ready to go on the first day of school August 10.

The principals thanked various donors for donations in the Blessings in a Backpack program and the donation of school supplies for children.

The donations were officially approved by the school board as presented.

Director of Learning Tim Davis said the start of school for Head Start is delayed as the Elkhart/St. Joseph Head Start Consortium is attempting to hire teachers after last minute resignations prior to the start of school.  He hopes that instruction can start Thursday (August 18).  The classes were recently moved from the Walkerton Elementary School to the St. Patrick’s School.

Preschool classes are set to begin Monday, August 22.

School Board member Christian Mattix commented that the school’s newly updated  website looks great and easy to navigate.  He thanked IT Director Daniel Medesi for his work on getting the website (www.jgsc.k12.in.us) updated.
