Governor Holcomb Signs Executive Order for Special Election

Governor Eric Holcomb has signed an Executive Order that calls for a Special Election to fill Congresswoman Jackie Walorski’s elected position to the Second Congressional District of Indiana. 

Walorski passed away in a car accident Wednesday, August 3 in Elkhart County.  The vacancy in the office took effect August 4.

The Special Election is set for Tuesday, November 8 which is the same day as the General Election.  Voters will cast one ballot to fill the remainder of Walorski’s term which ends January 3, 2023, and a second for a new term.

The Second District encompasses Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, La Porte, Marshall, Miami, Pulaski, Starke, St. Joseph, and Wabash Counties.

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer officially called two caucuses of eligible precinct committee members to separately fill ballot vacancies for the upcoming special election and the upcoming general election.  The caucuses will be held at 11 a.m. ET Saturday, August 20,  at Grissom Middle School located at 13881 Kern Road, Mishawaka.

A candidate who wishes to be chosen by the caucus must file a declaration of candidacy with both the Indiana Election Division and the chair of the party caucus no later than 72 hours before the caucus.
