The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is now offering a way for the Central Dispatch Center to livestream, receive multimedia, and receive locations from mobile callers in real time.
Sheriff Matt Hassel said the program, Prepared Live, built by the company Prepared, is in addition to the department’s technology suite that will significantly improve the ability to effectively and efficiently respond to emergencies in the community.
Hassel noted that with this program the Marshall County Central Dispatch hopes to shorten the amount of time between the call received and the dispatch of first responders, in addition to gathering more accurate information from callers.
Participation in a video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. Sheriff Hassel said if the caller consents, the caller will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher which enables activation to video. No other information will be able to be accessed on the caller’s phone.
Hassel said the live video stream could be highly beneficial in an active shooter situation to be able to see inside the building to see where the shooter could be and a possible identity.
