Plymouth School Board Approves Administration Fee for Garnishments

The Plymouth School Board members approved a resolution last week to charge an administrative fee for garnishments. The resolution states that from time to time, the corporation receives garnishment orders pursuant to Indiana Code applicable to Plymouth Community School Corporation employees.

The corporation is required to withhold the amounts from employees’ income and remit those amounts to the issuing courts. Because of that, the corporation incurs additional expenses to comply with those garnishment orders and wishes to pass those expenses onto the garnished employee.

The administrative fee of $3 will be charged to an employee for each garnishment payment.

In other news, the board approved a contract between the corporation and McKibben Demographic Research, LLC for demographic work.

Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter stated that the study will review the effect of new housing in the area and see if students are being placed in schools in a way that makes the most sense.   He said he hopes the study is done to make changes by the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

One of the two proposals is to do the actual demographic study while the other proposal provides options to consider if there is a redistricting plan. The cost for both projects total $18,000.
