A Marshall County Republican Caucus was held Tuesday night to select the next Party Chairman.
The position was open due to the passing of long-time Party Chairman David Holmes.
Vice Chairman Debbie VanDeMark and committee member Sean Surrisi filed for the open position. VanDeMark explained the rules to the 38 Precinct Committemen present to vote and then opened the floor to the candidates to speak.
Both candidates had five minutes to speak. Surrisi was first who spoke of his ambitions and a forward movement of the Republican Party. VanDeMark spoke of the work she’s done with the party under the leadership of David Holmes and said she would be more involved in recruiting candidates to run for election.
Following the speeches, the 38 precinct committeemen cast a ballot. The count showed 25 votes for Debbie VanDeMark and 13 votes for Sean Surrisi. With that, VanDeMark was announced as the next Marshall County Republican Party Chairman. She will hold that seat through the rest of Holmes’ term which ends in March 2025.
VanDeMark then selected the next Vice Chairman. She announced her choice as Jim Masterson and he accepted.
