A Rochester business went on lockdown Sunday due to a reported armed domestic dispute nearby, but an alleged report of an active shooter at the business caused police to force entry into the store.
The series of events began shortly after 11 a.m. ET when Rochester City Police officers were dispatched to a report of forced entry at a residence on Madison Street, according to the report. A woman inside the house was hiding from an armed intruder who police say fired rounds through the upstairs floor down to the main floor. Rochester police say ISP ERT was able to use an interior flying drone to locate the suspect in a bedroom adjacent to where the female and children were hiding. At that time, it was determined that the suspect, later identified as Daniel Tuttle, 38, of Rochester, was deceased by taking his life, according to police. There were no other injuries reported and the female and children were safely evacuated from the residence shortly after 1 p.m. ET.
Meanwhile, police say just before 1:30 p.m. ET, Fulton County dispatch received a 911 call of an active shooter at R.P. Home Supply in Rochester. Police responded and could not gain entry into the store, and used a squad car to gain entry by driving through the doors. It was later learned that corporate entities placed the store on lockdown due to the domestic incident and employees had asked customers to leave the business Sunday afternoon. One patron had gone into another store saying there was an active shooter at R.P. Home Supply which triggered the 911 call, according to the report.
The Rochester Police Department was assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana State Police ERT and Crime Scene Technicians, Fulton County Coroner’s Office, Fulton County Communications, and Lutheran EMS.
