The Plymouth Board of Public Works approved the street closure request submitted by the Plymouth Public Library for a One Book One City event. Garro Street will be closed from the United States Post Office to the corner of Michigan St. and Garro St. on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an event focused on “The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers” by Maxwell King. Downtown businesses, non-profit organizations, and volunteers will be providing entertainment, a chili cook off, and games for families.
The board also approved City of Plymouth Coordinator Laura Mann’s request to issue the checks to pay the entertainment for Mayor’s Month of Music at the time of their performance.
City of Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter requested that Building Commissioner Keith Hammond issue a safety citation on the overgrown lawn located at 1808 Hillcrest. Senter said he was very startled when he almost hit a three year old playing in the front yard in the street to the east of the property. “I was literally shaking when I knocked on the door. She ran right out in front of me. Fortunately I was only going 5 miles an hour, 10 miles an hour and I was able to stop. That’s my biggest fear are the kids, the children, to the east of that house.”
Plymouth Fire Chief Steve Holm said he is still searching for a full time paramedic. The firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) job post closed on June 15th after which Holm said he would be reviewing applications. “We do have a number of those in which is good.” He noted that several qualified applicants are in the running.
After reviewing the bids, the paving contract was awarded to E&B Paving. Street Superintendent James Marquardt said that City Attorney Sean Surrisi submitted all the proper paperwork to them, got that signed and they are now waiting for a pre-construction meeting.
The board also approved a request to release the Stormwater Financial Guarantee to Farm Innovators Inc. in the amount of $13,600 for the completion of the small berms and other small improvements of the expansion project to add stormwater drainage infrastructure which began in 2017.
