Band and color guard students from nine high schools in Marshall County and Starke County are coming together to march as a single unit in the Indianapolis 500 parade Saturday, May 28.
Plymouth High School Band Director Bryan Ames said 350+ students are coming together to play in the event. Only five out of the nine schools have a competitive marching program so some students will be learning how to march in a parade for the first time.
Drumline and color guard performers, and woodwind, percussion and brass players, from Plymouth, Bremen, LaVille, Triton, Argos, Culver, Oregon-Davis, Knox, and North Judson-San Pierre will be participating in this first-ever area merged event.
Ames noted that the students will be wearing their hometown uniforms representing their individual programs. The flags for the color guard were previously purchased with a grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation.
Ames mentioned that the students will be gathering at Plymouth High School Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m. ET to practice. They are anticipated to be out on the track after 7:30 p.m. ET marching together.
