A new K-9 will soon be ready to begin work at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel said K-9 Bear was donated to the Sheriff’s Department from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Bear is a male German Shepherd trained in drug detection, tracking, article search, and aggression. He will be three years old Wednesday and served with the Elkhart Sheriff’s Department from September 25, 2020, to May 6 of this year.
Hassel noted that Deputy Curtis Tempelman has been selected to be the K-9 handler and will start training with Bear in June.
The addition of Bear at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will bring the force back to two K-9s. Bear takes the place of K-9 Irok who recently retired.
