An accident involving two vehicles in Marshall County claimed the life of a La Porte man Saturday morning.
According to an Indiana State Police investigation, the accident occurred at 11:50 a.m. ET near the intersection of North Sycamore Road and West 3B Road in Marshall County. Police say 59-year-old Douglas Swanson of La Porte was in his white 1992 Ford traveling west on West 3B Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with North Sycamore Road. His vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a red 2005 Dodge driven by 25-year-old Brandi Dorsey of Lakeville, according to the report. Dorsey did not have a stop sign.
The report indicated that Swanson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Police say he succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital. Swanson’s family has been notified.
Dorsey had complaints of pain and was treated at the scene. She was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and having a suspended driver’s license, according to the report. Toxicology test results are pending.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Indiana State Police troopers were assisted at the scene by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Walkerton Police Department and Polk Township Fire Department.
