The John Glenn School Board members took action to approve items related to summer school for this year.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said 18 days of summer school will be offered for high school students and for K-8 students it will be 15 days. The Kindercamp will also be offered, thanks to a partnership with United Way and the Head Start Consortium.
Winchell noted that summer school is especially important again this year as some students continue to catch up from the pandemic when there was learning loss due to virtual learning.
The board members approved the instructional staffing for summer school.
Winchell commented that Treasurer Tom Bendy is working to get the pre-summer school grant and will work on the post-summer school grant which will reimburse the school for about 50 percent of costs.
Separately, the board approved the summer transportation staffing. Director of Transportation and Operations Will Groves was approved to work an additional 20 days to oversee summer school operations. It was approved with the abstention of Board Member William Groves.
